Dicas para viajar com seu animal de estimação

Os animais de estimação têm necessidades específicas durante a viagem, de forma que planejar é sempre importante. Leonardo Brandão, médico veterinário da Merial Saúde Animal, dá algumas dicas:

* Sempre colocar no animal uma identificação com nome e dados do proprietário para contato, para evitar que ele se perca em local estranho e não seja encontrado. Também é importante ter o nome de um médico veterinário no local de destino;

* É fundamental carregar a carteira de vacinação do animal e levá-lo ao veterinário caso a viagem seja de avião ou muito longa de carro. O veterinário pode orientar sobre como tranqüilizar o animal em determinados tipos de viagem;

* Familiarize seu pet com a caixa de transporte de forma que ele se sinta em casa e seguro;

* Durante a viagem procure locais de parada em que animais são bem-vindos;

* Tente não dar comida para o cão ou gato por cerca de 6 horas antes da viagem para minimizar as chances de enjôo no carro ou no avião;

* Dependendo do tipo de transporte e da duração da viagem é interessante levar o brinquedo predileto do seu pet, artigos para limpeza, purificador de ar e limpa-carpete, comida, tigela para água e comida, colher, abridor de lata, colchão ou cama familiar;

* Verifique se o animal consegue entrar no carro com segurança. Caso ele não esteja confortável ou não costuma viajar muito de carro, dê umas voltas perto de casa antes de começar a viagem. A dica é ir a um parque que ele já conhece para que ele associe o andar de carro com uma experiência agradável;

* É importante também proteger o animal contra possíveis lesões decorrentes de paradas ou desvios bruscos, usando caixa de transporte ou cinto de segurança próprio para animais. Não utilize o cinto de segurança do carro, há vários tipos de cintos para cães e gatos. Esses equipamentos não apenas protegem o animal, mas também o motorista e os demais passageiros;

* Ao estacionar, procure um local com sombra e não deixe seu pet sozinho no carro: podem ser roubados, entrar em pânico quando se vêem sozinhos em ambientes estranhos, além de ficar sob alta temperatura – em poucos minutos isso pode causar insolação e desidratação. Abra as janelas para entrar ar fresco.

* Viajar com um animal de estimação deixa a viagem um pouco mais longa. Tente manter as caminhadas e a alimentação a que ele está acostumado. Coloque a coleira no animal antes de sair do carro e mantenha-o preso o tempo todo até voltar para o carro e fechar a porta.
